12-Year-Old Remanded for Allegedly Stabbing Siblings

An Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court has ordered the remand of a 12-year-old boy in a juvenile home for allegedly stabbing two brothers.

The Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, on Wednesday, August 14, ruled that “the defendant is a juvenile and shall be tried at Juvenile court. He is hereby ordered remanded at the Juvenile home” as he adjourned the case till August 16 for mention.”

During the trial, the police prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant (minor) committed the offence on August 10 at about 8 a.m. in the Omi Olori area in Ado Ekiti.

“The defendant assaulted two siblings – Toheeb Adeitan and Tajudeen Adeitan, by beating them and stabbing them on the hand and shoulder. The defendant willfully and maliciously damaged the Vivo handset valued at N19,000 belonging to one Basiri Adeitan. The defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace. The offences committed contravene Sections 186, 421 and 181(d) Laws of Ekiti State, 2021,” Oriyomi said

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge against him as his counsel, Gboyega Abiola, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
