The Atlanta artist  Gunna is one of the more popular rappers hailing from Atlanta, Georgia and his city loves him, especially when he does good deeds by giving back as he did last weekend.

The WUNNA rapper visited his old stomping grounds,  Ronald McNair Middle school ,on Thursday (September 17) to surprise students with a marvelous gift to get them through the post-COVID school year. In a partnership with Atlanta-based non-profit organization Goodr, Gunna opened Gunna’s Drip Closet and Goodr Grocery Store. The store allows students to grab food, toiletries, shoes and clothes for free.

“These are things I said I was gonna do when I got in a position to do it so I just gotta follow that,” Gunna said told The Atlanta voice. “I want them to learn that you can be anyone you want to be, you can be anything you want to be because look at me. I did what I wanted to do and I went to the same school that they went to.”

Goodr is a social impact startup aiming to reduce food waste and end hunger through technology. They also aim to provide support in combating food insecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic for senior citizens and low-income students who rely on subsidized school meals.

While opening up his new store that day, Gunna was also awarded his own day. in South Fulton, Georgia, by the city’s mayor, William “Bill” Edwards. In a special ceremony, the mayor handed Gunna a declaration recognizing his accomplishments.

Just like the Phoenix, rising above the ashes of adversity, Gunna is committed to giving back to the community that raised him, buffered him, sheltered him and supported him by creating Gunna’s Drip Closet and Goodr Grocery Store which is set to provide students of McNair Middle School with access to free meals, clothing and toiletries for years to come,” the declaration reads.
