John Boyega Joins Historical Drama The Woman King

With Viola Davis, Lashana Lynch and The Underground Railroad's Thuso Mbedu already on board to star,Gina Prince-Bythewood’s latest, The Woman King has built a solid cast so far. The director is adding John Boyega to the ensemble.

The film, written by the director and Dana Stevens, is an historical epic inspired by true events that took place in the Kingdom of Dahomey, one of the most powerful states of Africa in the 18th and 19th centuries. The story follows Nanisca (Davis), general of the all-female military unit, and Nawi (Mbedu), an ambitious recruit, who together fought enemies who violated their honor, enslaved their people and threatened to destroy everything they’ve lived for.

Boyega is on to play King Ghezo, the ruler of Dahomey. "I have been enamored by John’s immense talent for years, but his speech to Black women during the protests cemented my desire to work with him," Prince-Bythewood says in a statement carried by The Hollywood Reporter. "The description of King Ghezo reads, 'He walks as if the earth were honored by its burden.' John possesses that innate depth and swagger, and I’m so excited to put it on screen.”

Flavor Flav Arrested For Domestic Violence In Nevada

William Jonathan Dayton, an American rapper who co-founded the rap group “Public Enemy” alongside Chuck D,he is popularly known as Flavor Flav the 62 years rapper was arrested by the police and was charged for domestic violence in Nevada. The victim, whose identity has not yet been revealed, accused Flavor Flav of poking his finger on her nose, grabbing her, throwing her to the ground and snatching a phone out of her hand. Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ Returns to Top 10 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales Chart After A Decade

Lady Gaga ’s Born This Way album, released in 2011, returns to the top 10 of Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart (dated Sept. 18) for the first time in over a decade. The set re-enters the list at No. 10 thanks to the Sept. 3 release of the CD and cassette editions of the album’s special 10th anniversary reissue. In the week ending Sept. 9, Born This Way sold 5,000 copies in the U.S. (up 5,251%), according to MRC Data. It sold about 100 copies in the week previous. (All versions of Born This Way, including the original release and the 10th anniversary reissue, are combined for tracking and charting purposes.) Born This Way was originally released on May 23, 2011 and debuted at No. 1 on the June 18, 2011-dated chart. It was last in the top 10 on the July 23, 2011 list. The album was reissued on June 26, 2021 via digital retailers and streaming services with six additional tracks by other artists covering the album’s songs.
